GREEN! GREEN! GREEN!


Everyone is always telling us to drink green drinks and green smoothies (I personally swear by them πŸ’š) but why??? I would like to give you a little insight on why those gorgeous greens are so very good for us and so very important for us to be adding into our daily lifestyles!

The pH balance of our bodies is essential to good health. Keeping the acid/ alkaline balance in our bodies is key to keeping our gut flora happy. Our bodies thrive when our pH is slightly alkaline. Diets high in sugars, soft drinks, highly processed foods, artificial sweeteners and flour products produce a very acidic environment. Our bodies end up in a state of high acidity, this is when illness and fatigue occur!

The key to helping correct this situation within our bodies is by adding more alkaline minerals, which can be done by eating more alkaline forming foods. This is where our green friends come in! Welcome spinach, kale, cucumbers, celery, lettuce, apples, peaches, lemons and bananas! These are all examples of alkaline foods. Yum, right?! Having these foods in the morning is especially helpful because over night, whilst we are sleeping our bodies tend to settle into a more acidic state, making a good morning burst of green goodness a great way the greet the day!

Here are two of my favorite green smoothie recipes to get you hooked on starting every day the green way!

Green Goodness


1 Frozen banana

2 Cups of almond milk (or coconut milk)

1 Cup frozen peaches ( or 1 1/2 pears or frozen mango is really nice too)

A healthy handful of fresh parsley

2 Huge handfuls of Spinach

1 Tbsp Almond Butter

Adding probiotic powder will make this a champion to your system!

Place all ingredients in the blender and blend away.

This will make 2 servings

Green Belly Soother

2 Large apples peeled and chopped

Juice of 2 limes

Juice of a lemon (or 2 depending on your taste, I like 2)

Fresh ginger (about an inch off of a fresh ginger root)

1 Cucumber

A very healthy portion of Parsley

2 Huge handfuls of spinach

1/2-1 Cup of water (added to desired consistency)

Adding probiotic powder can only make this more of a belly pleasing power house, add if desired.

Place all ingredients in the blender and blend away! This one will take a bit more blending and add water as needed for consistency, check taste and add more lemon/lime if you would like it. This is a smoothie that is also really good strained into a juice. You can either pour through a very fine strainer or squeeze through a nut milk bag.
